Why this pick

ML-DSA-44 (Dilithium, FIPS 204, NIST category 2) is the smallest official Dilithium set. Checking a signature is about as fast as today’s curves. Each payment is larger — about 2.4 KB of signature plus a 1.3 KB public key — so you pay in network and storage, not in CPU, on a typical validator. Use it as the default when the network can carry those extra bytes. ML-DSA-65 and ML-DSA-87 are the same design at higher NIST categories and more bytes. Falcon is smaller if bandwidth is tight. Hybrid-44 adds Ed25519 for a dual-path transition.
